Dr Don Cameron was an author on two recent papers relating to coeliac disease. One was a study he conducted on children with coeliac disease in conjunction with Jason Tye-Din and others at WEHI to see if different age groups responded differently to exposure to gluten fragments. This is very important in the further development of the “vaccine” for coeliac disease. Fortunately, this research suggests that the vaccine will not need to be modified for children. The second was a guidelines paper on the use of HLA typing in coeliac disease, in his capacity as a member of the Medical Advisory Committee of Coeliac Australia.
